Watching Tornado Chasers on TV

Just because Tornado Chasers is delivered through the web via streaming and DRM-free downloads doesn’t mean that you are confined to watching the series on your computer.  In fact there are several ways you can watch on your TV which we have outlined below.  We believe that one of the best ways to experience Tornado Chasers is in full 1080p HD on your TV and we will continue developing additional methods to make it easier to do just that.

Roku

One of the easiest ways to watch on your TV is through our dedicated Roku app.  All you need is a Roku streaming device and an internet connection.  After installing our channel on your device you’ll want to link it with your tvnweather.com account by choosing “Link Account” and entering your email address and password.  If you created your tvnweather.com account by logging in via Facebook, Twitter, or Google your account will not have a password and you’ll first need to create one before you can use our Roku channel.  To add a password to your account you simply use the forgot password process to have a link emailed to you that will guide you through the rest of the process.

USB Drive

A lot of newer TVs have USB ports that allow you to connect a USB drive your TV to playback video files. You can simply download the 1080p DRM-free MP4 to your USB drive and then connect it to your TV. Specific playback instructions and supported file formats will vary based on the model of your TV.

HDMI Cable

If you have a computer that supports HDMI out you can simply connect an HDMI cable from your computer to an HDMI input on your TV and play it in a media player of your choice. For best quality use the 1080p MP4 and make sure the TV is used to extend your desktop and that the resolution for this second display is set to 1920×1080. You’ll then drag the media player over to the TV just as if it was a second monitor connected to your machine. We recommend using the free and open source VLC player.

Apple TV via AirPlay

If you own an Apple TV you can play the MP4 downloads on your device through iTunes or iOS via AirPlay. You will need to import the 1080p MP4s into your library first.

Google Chromecast Coming

We have developed support for Google Chromecast and are patiently waiting for Google to make the SDK public, since it is currently a developer preview this feature currently only works on whitelisted development devices.  Once Google moves it out of the status of developer preview we’ll make a full announcement detailing our support for the device.  We are excited about this because it will provide a very easy and economical way to stream Tornado Chasers on your TV.

If you happen to have MythTV (http://www.mythtv.org/), you and drop the episodes into your Videos section and watch them there as well.
